According to Roman mythology, Remus and Romulus were sons of the gods abandoned at birth and raised by a she-wolf. As adults, they decided to found a city along the Tiber River near the spot where they had been abandoned. Each chose a hill on which to build their kingdom, but quarreling ensued. Ultimately, Romulus grew weary of Remus's taunting and killed his brother in a fit of rage.
Romulus went on to found Rome, one of the most admired of ancient cities.
